Helping displaced people build a hopeful future

ABOUT US

Safe Haven Foundation's vision is to empower displaced individuals by providing a path to rebuilding their lives with dignity, safety, and security, creating lasting opportunities for success and resilience in their communities.  We achieve this through providing safe housing, education & employment, and community support.

SHF's mission is safety, security, and success.

Our services provide safety and necessary support for displaced people in the state of Delaware who are survivors of torture, kidnapping, physical & sexual violence, and who have had to flee their home.  There are currently more than 120 million displaced people in the world; 47 million are children.  Women and children are at the greatest risk for continued exploitation and violence after being displaced.  SHF has a special focus on women and children, believing that every person is made in the image of God and deserves the opportunity to live in peace and security.

Safe Housing & Operations

Our network of safe housing across Delaware provides placement with landlords who are invested in helping people rebuild their lives.  Our housing is located in areas with access to public transportation, grocery stores, doctors, employment opportunities, and schools with ESOL resources.  For women who have faced violence of all kinds, removing this fear provides the opportunity they need for rebuilding their lives.

Through our rent and utility assistance program, our team reviews the financial need and sets a schedule for the a determined amount of time for our displaced families to get on their feet.

Education &

Employment

Education & Employment resources contribute to long term and generational success.

We offer a range of resources for displaced families who are looking to build a more secure financial future through in-person ESL classes, entrepreneurship training, our Build Your Life classes, and connections to employment opportunities within the local community.  Education opportunities go hand in hand with securing better employment.

We also support the continued education of displaced children who are working toward a better future and want to continue their education in college.

Community

Support

A supportive community is the number one marker of long term well being for survivors of torture, kidnapping, physical & sexual violence, and those who have had to flee their home.  Our connections to local partners enable displaced individuals to be embraced by a community who can come alongside of people as they rebuild their lives.

Long term mental health is also supported through assistance with counseling referrals as well as equine therapy and other therapeutic opportunities for children.

Through these supportive avenues, our goal for displaced individuals is to experience a bright and hopeful future.
